Monoswezi

Last updated: 14/12/2011 // Monoswezi came to Harare in November, they had a workshop and concert at the Zimbabwe College of Music, and a concert at the Mannenberg Jazzclub. Later they continued their tour to Mozambique and South Africa. The band has released the album Monoswezi; the cd has been critically acclaimed in Norway and abroad.

The band is a collective of musicians from Mozambique, Norway, Sweden and Zimbabwe, now living in Norway.  With a common passion for traditional African music in general, and music from Zimbabwe and Mozambique in particular, Monoswezi seeks a musical expression, where respect for tradition is combined with different references and experiences from jazz and modern Western music.  In addition to traditional music, Monoswezi performs music composed by the band members, with a strong improvisational approach.

The Norwegian Embassy provided financial support to their tour to Africa.  Monoswezi has in 2011 also received  ensemble support from the Norwegian Arts Council.
