HIFA 2006

The Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) is the largest cultural event in Zimbabwe. HIFA 2006 will run from 25 to 30 April 2006.

30/03/2006 :: Last year HIFA showcased Norwegian KhiO Ballet Company at the 7Arts Theatre. The Norwegian Embassy in Harare is happy to announce that this year there are two Norwegian groups of artists coming to the Festival as well as two Zimbabwean groups with links to Norway.   
Kreutzerkompani, a Norwegian performance group, a performance group mainly using video, audio and dance, will have 2 performances 26th and 27th April at the National Gallery and a workshop. The date for the workshop and time of performances will be announced later.
Norwegian Teachers play Marimba: A group of ten Norwegian teachers from Fredrikstad will play marimba music at HIFA on from 26 to 28 April. Time will be announced.
Ibsen 100th Anniversary. The Harare based group CHIPAWO is an arts education for development and employment organisation. They are commemorating the Norwegian author Henrik Ibsen, with setting up their Zimbabwean adaptation of "Peer Gynt", which is called is called "A Journey to Yourself". Time and dates of performance will be announced.
100 years after his death, Henrik Ibsen is celebrated world wide, with his plays set up in different arenas through out the year. Mutapa Project. The Zimbabwean ballett dancer Jimu Makurambandi a Zimbabwean dancer and resident in Norway has a project supported by Norsk Kulturråd. His group Mutapa project made up from unemployed youths will also perform at HIFA. Mr. Makurambandi has studied in Norway and at the time beeing he is affiliated with Nordic Black Theatre in Oslo.
