22/02/2005 :: Zimbabwe has been a priority recipient of Norwegian development assistance since the country gained its independence in 1980, but in 2002 all government-to-government agreements with Zimbabwe were terminated due to the political situation in the country.
Norwegian development assistance is channelled through non-governmental co-operation partners and the UN. Norway also provides support for a regional master’s degree programme in women’s law, and there is broad-based research co-operation between Norwegian and Zimbabwean universities under the auspices of the Norwegian Council for Higher Education’s Programme for Development Research and Education (NUFU).
